Islejarl

Orders and real time

There's no such thing as a daily turn in Islejarl. Here's what actually replaces it.

Exact numbers below (the tick length, how fast Orders refill, the exact cap) are still being tuned, so this page describes the shape of the system rather than promising exact figures.

No daily turns

If you've played a game like this before, you might expect a small stack of turns handed out once a day, each one able to hold more strategy than the stack ever lets you spend. Islejarl doesn't work that way on purpose.

The whole world moves on a short, steady clock in the background, server-side, every few minutes, all day, every day. Your income, your upkeep, your food, all of it gets settled on that same steady clock, whether you're logged in or not. When a number on this site is written as a rate "per hour" or "per day," that's just the unit chosen to make it readable. Underneath, it's actually credited in small slices every few minutes, continuously, and the screen shows it ticking upward smoothly in between.

The practical effect: there's no right or wrong time of day to log in, and nothing punishes you for checking in once a day instead of five times. Logging in more often just lets you react faster to what's happening, not earn more than someone who checks in less. Your Fishing Isles dry their stockfish whether you're watching or asleep. The tide doesn't wait for anyone to log in, and neither does your jarldom.

What Orders are

Income and upkeep run on their own, but the bigger, active moves, raids, spy missions, expeditions, proposing an Oath, cost something called Orders. Orders are a capped bank that refills gradually over real time, on its own, whether you're playing or not, up to a limit.

Different moves cost different amounts. A quiet scouting report costs the least. A full assault on another jarl's isles costs the most.

Check in once or twice a day and you'll usually find a full bank waiting for you, ready to spend on whatever you've decided to do. There's no reward for logging in more often than that just to catch every last Order the moment it refills.

Staying away

If you go quiet for a stretch, nothing falls apart right away. Your jarldom slows down and picks up extra protection instead of turning into an easy target. Only after a genuinely long time away do your isles go back on the market for someone else to claim, and even then, it happens step by step, never all at once.

If you know ahead of time that you'll be gone, you can mark yourself away before you go. That keeps your jarldom fully protected for the length of your trip, no slow-down and no risk, instead of leaving it to the normal, gentler safety net.
